GREEN TOUCH TO THE SCHOOL AMBIENCE |
The first project of MANITHAM was to provide the right ambience for child education. The result of this initiative is 'CREA' the school.
CREA stands for creative learning. It is a positive reaction to the typical approach of conventional education. CREA believes that children shall bring out the best of their capacities if they are allowed to be creative and innovative.
CREA believes in individuality and uniqueness of each child. Targets should therefore not be set from common standards. Each child's talents, interests and capacities should be taken into account and the targets should be set accordingly.
The other major thrust of CREA is the respect given for the human worth and rights of children. Throughout the educational milieu one can observe scant respect for the person of child. In this world of commercialisation, children are viewed with disrespect and are taken for granted by the parents and teachers alike. The adults tend to look at the children from the viewpoint of providers.
"CREA SINCERELY BELIEVES THAT THE WORLD CAN RELEARN THE LOST HUMAN VALUES FROM THE CHILDREN." |
So, beating the child or hurting the child's feelings is strictly banned in CREA. We also wish to impart a similar atmosphere in the families from which these children come.
Having such vision and attitude towards children, CREA Children's Academy was set up in 1992. Nearly 10 years of involved work with children has enabled our positive expectations from the community of children. We are very positive that any sincere work with the children will be rewarded multifold.
CREA believes in Participatory method of learning. We have been able to achieve the following over a period of 10 years.
- New standards in identifying and encouraging the individual capacity of each child. CREA has initiated the process of developing new parameters in this regard.
- Setting up new standards of assessing the academic capacity of each child is yet another goal reached by CREA. Instead of rote memory alone, cognitive, lingual, motor, creative, mathematical, social and emotional skills are taken into consideration to assess the performance of children.
- Recognising and appreciating the child's innate urge to be playful and joyful is another area of which CREA is proud. While children are let to be playful and happy only as a concession and not rightfully, CREA believes in the right of each child to laugh and play. It also believes that each child has a right to be loved and appreciated irrespective of its academic, social, personal or whatever standing, each child has human rights, which no one has the right to deny.

Any sincere effort will bring in appreciation and support from everywhere. Likewise the sincere and involved work of CREA with the children's community has brought in supportive friend from England. Ms.Janet Hutcheon, a creative writer and humanist and Mr. Ian Hutcheon, Late Life President, MTL had identified the worth of CREA and both of them wasted no time in extending their full-fledged support to mobilize funds for the project. SIWI Trust, which was formed by Ms. Janet Hutcheon, Mrs. Margaret Tiburtius, and Mr. Stephen Cockrell, had a significant part to play in creating the new infrastructure.
With contributions from SIWI and the Patron of MANITHAM, a modern facility was installed in the year 2002.
