FOLK THEATRE WORK SHOP
HISTORY, CONCEPT AND UNIQUENESS OF CREA
A folk theatre work shop had been arranged for the students of STD VI -IX in January 2002. The five days programme was conducted by Dr. Palani, Reader, folk arts department, Manonmaniam Sundharanar University, Tirunelvelli. The children had the following training and creative exercises during the programme.
Physical flexibility exercises
Creative & Imaginative exercises
Folk dances
Basics of street theatre
Creating & enacting frames

Apart from these techniques, the children also found out the joy of working together, creating art forms and finding out the roots of our culture.
During the evaluation the children said that they have discovered the wonders of folk arts. They also clarified their misconception that only people of supposedly low castes will perform such arts. In short the training was resourceful and meaningful to the students.
‘The Hindu’ carried a feature on this unique training provided to the students of CREA.
